to relate the dominoes and the whole matches thing...i decide to light some dominoes on fire...i tried to do it with the wooden ones but the coating the manufactures had on it wouldn't allow it so i used the plastic childrens ones i bought in mothercare instead...

oh where oh where is shadow....
i was lining up lines of dominoes with the intension of recording the falling motion...then the shadows caugh my eye...as you move...they appear to grow...
growing....and
growing....and
growing!
this video shows the movement of the shadows and light....
the side view shows the falling aspect of dominoes....
i plan on expanding this idea further...it very simple but i find it interesting!!

nail varnish...highly flammable !
after doing the matches experiment...i stuck the sellotape with burned out matches in my conceptual notebook...this led me to making this very decorative piece...
i used my sisters nail varnish pen which has a needle top to it...which makes it very easy to create light delicate patterns.
the patterns are designed to show the movement of the flames...due to wind etc.
hanging at my desk...a time consuming piece...2 and a half hours!

felting ...
went to a felt making workshop with Liz Spillane and created the following....
my first attempt... created a pocket element to it!
sat it up right...looks more visually appealing.... i plan on using it in a kinetic instillation in the future....
making a pen holder.....
decided to make a flat piece inspired by the previous burning matches i was experimenting with....the warm reds and oranges reflect this....i plan on making larger" matches" and using this felt as the flame....i will then burn it!!!
my finished pieces from the day....

feeling tired????
i started expanding the whole idea of the domino effect to the " domino effect of Yawning". Yawning is often triggered by others...eg. seeing a person yawn! its a typical example of positive feedback movement...
i liked doing these heads but was not 100% satisfied with the end results..i feel they look more like screaming heads than yawning...
these photographs of myself yawning are more effective i found... i cut my hair off (in the photo!!) because of the drawing i had done previous ...
these five paintings were all done as experiments...to see which technique or material could be used to try and convey the yawning motion as well as the photographs did!
